Making the Album

By opening the curtains on the making of this album (the good bits, the bad bits and the ugly bits), I hope some other people will be encouraged to take something off their "someday" list and move it over to their "get it done" list. It doesn't have to be music related. It could be climbing the Matterhorn or going back to school to get a law degree. It's about respecting the time that we are gifted with.

To those in my age group, my message is it's never too late to pursue a dream. To those in younger age groups, if you wonder how I could have postponed recording this album for 40 years, it was really easy. I postponed it one day at a time. Please don't follow that example 😊.

Still in August, 2021 Started my wish list!

Started drawing up my wish list of who I wanted to work with both in

terms of musicians and engineers. My first step was choosing a drummer.

Thrilled to get a "yes" from my first choice! Watch video introducing him and why I chose him.

August 6, 2021 Download Pro Tools

Pro Tools is an industry standard software used for recording music. I made the decision that I would not be trying to do everything myself and produce a half-assed outcome, done 'on the cheap'. Despite having worked as a recording engineer many years ago, I knew that there would be a long learning curve to try to get up to speed with current technology. I chose to work with skilled engineers who were doing this for a living and only downloaded Pro Tools for recording ideas and basic parts.

What a learning curve!

August 1, 2021 It starts! Decision made (only took 40 years to make this decision)

Everything starts with a decision. We can "think about" doing something or "intend" to do something until the cows home home (or 40 years goes by. Whichever comes first) but until a decision is made, nothing happens. We don't have to have all the pieces figured out (I certainly didn't and still don't!). Many of the pieces will end up changing anyway. We just need to activate the decision 'switch' inside our brain and get started.

I didn't announce the decision publicly until the end of October. Here's the announcement video I posted to Facebook (after a few teaser posts about a big announcement).
