Ever heard it said "You can't teach an old dog new tricks?" If (like me) you are a person 'of a certain age', the loudest voice saying that is probably inside your own head. The lyrics to part 3 of Bridge Across the Years were very much a rejection of that type of thinking and a celebration of how great it feels to give yourself permission to truly follow your heart. I would, in fact, suggest that it's actually EASIER to teach an old dog a new trick (and I'm saying that as someone with a new puppy in the house.)
The album cover for Bridge Across the Years was inspired by a poster for a 'one off' show back in 2017. It's a depiction of the waterfront of my hometown (New Westminster, BC Canada). I had always enjoyed that poster (created by Tamara Echevaria, wife of Diego Viramontes who ended up being the primary vocalist on my album) and it ultimately inspired both the album title and the lyrics for the title track.
