The "Why" (and my "Big Hairy Audacious Goal" *)

How could I wait 40 years to go into production with this album?

It was easy. I postponed it one day at a time. I hope, by documenting the process of recording this album, I can encourage other people to start taking things off their own 'someday' list and move them over to their 'get it done!' list.

To older people: "It's never too late to start!"

To younger people: "Please don't wait as long as I did!"

The "Big Hairy Audacious Goal*" (that pushed me to finally start this project)

I'm on a mission to create a predictable, sustainable business model that will enable independent producers of quality music to earn a full time income from their craft.

As a lifelong music fan, I was dismayed by the reality of today's music business for most acts. Approaching retirement after a lifetime in the world of sales and marketing, I wanted to use that knowledge and experience to benefit something I cared about. I needed a 'guinea pig' band on which I could test my ideas. Since I didn't have a career to wreck, I decided to test the ideas on myself. :)

The final push

I had been 'thinking' about recording these tunes for a couple of years so I could be my own guinea pig but it was the passing of my father in May, 2021 that was the wake-up call I needed. I very clearly got the message that I don't have an infinite amount of time available to me on this planet and that I had better stop "thinking about it" and start "doing it."

* "Big Hairy Audacious Goal" is a phrase first coined by renowned author Jim Collins in his seminal business book "Built to last". It describes the concept of (and importance of) setting a goal that is so big it scares you.
